Hello technology, and goodbye outdated black and white photos. Tablets have finally made it to the most profitable business in all of sports, the NFL. Starting this season, the new Sideline Viewing System developed by Microsoft and the NFL will allow teams to use the Microsoft Surface on the sidelines.
Originally reported by SFGate, the NFL will allow teams 13 Surfaces on the sidelines and 12 upstairs in the coaches’ box. The tablets themselves will be owned and maintained by the league in order to make sure that no one tries to extend the technology past displaying still images.
While you still won't see Peyton Manning send a tweet out during the 4th quarter, this will just be another tool that will allow him to break the defense in real time.
