After mounting pressure from International leaders, including those in Washington, D.C., long-time Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has been replaced with Haider al-Abadi.
Maliki desperately clung to power in his final days as Prime Minister, but mounting pressure finally forced him to resign.
He has held the position since 2006.
The decision to replace Maliki has the full support of Washington leaders as the U.S. continues airstrikes in northern Iraq.
